Etsy Shop!

Hello again friends! Just checking in quickly to promote my Etsy shop!

It too is called the Modern Romantic, and I have recently added my latest jewelry creations. As soon as I have proper pictures, I'll be putting up some other things like crafts, and even a few hair flowers that could be a part of someone's Big Day!

Take a look at some of my stuff if you please!

Thanks!

Bridal Blingies

Ugh. I am SO BAD! I haven't been a good blogger in about a month! I am terribly sorry. The excuse again is that it's TWO weeks away from the wedding and I am running around all over the place with last minute planning, projects, etc. But, I now promise to update as much as I can in the weeks (2!!!) leading up to our big day. As much as I can. :)

So, remember that time I said I was all set with accessories? I had my shoes, jewelry, everything right? Wrong. I changed shoes twice after the initial purchase. Twice! And all in the final three months before the wedding! Sheesh.
Welp. I did it again. Not with shoes! Don't worry. Too much. With earrings.

Skee-daddle, P!
I recently enjoyed the wedding of two really great friends of mine and Patrick's. It was such a beautiful, emotion-filled day! And of course, (because she always does) the bride was stunning! I was particularly obsessed with intrigued by her lovely earrings. She had square shinies that were absolutely gorgeous, and absolutely unpredictable.

Gorgeous, yes? I know! (The ladies are both beautimious bridesmaids of mine, too!)
I had gotten used to the drop, circular, crystal look on Brides ever since I subscribed to the magazine of that same name. Beautiful pieces, yes, but I was seeing them EVERYWHERE! And, well, Katie inspired me to look outside of the norm. (NOT at all saying that drop, circlular crystal bridal earrings are not good, I was just not really into mine any more). Not only that but, when I first bought them, my mom had been a little iffy about them, so back to etsy I went.

Here are my first pair...
Gorgeous, yes. But do they go with my dress?
I don't know...
So, in searching for better earrings, I knew that there were three specific aesthetic choices I'd made about what I wanted that I'd adhere to...

  1. They would be post earrings. Not dangling. If I were ever to conceivably wear my wedding earrings again for a nice event, I don't think they'd actually be worn if they were giant dangly duds. So, posts or studs all the way!
  2. They would be an irregular shape, or to be more general: not round. I decided that the round or oval look really didn't match my dress/overall bridal look.
  3. They would have a vintage element to them.
So there I was, at work, searching desperately for more earrings and guys...it really wasn't hard. I had about six pairs in my cart on etsy before I began to narrow them down. They ranged from art-deco looking beautiful rhinestone pieces, to odd square CZ sparklies. And I got it down to three pairs, then two, and then the choice was clear...

Check out my blingies!

Those lovelies are the winners that I will be wearing on our big day. They came in the mail the other day and I am seriously in love. So much so that I can't wait for those perfect little detail shots starring these beauties. I love that they are different shaped stones and that they kind of look like they belong in the 40's or the 30's even. I think they compliment the style of my dress more and they will be something I can put on at a fancy anniversary dinner or something like that. I can't wait! There are 17 days left!

Brief side note: I was thinking the other day: Why am I changing all my accessories so close to the wedding? How picky can I be? Am I wishy-washy? But looking back, I bought the accessories (shoes, earrings) really early in the process. I was so eager to have them in my possession that I bought them without thinking. Without letting myself picture the day wearing them, letting the image really come to life in my overall plan, and because of that -- I ended up not liking them, and searching for replacements. I am happy (at last) with what I have now, but it would have been better not to have to return the items and/or sell them. My advice: get your accessories for your wedding after you have purchased your dress and after you really *know* (i.e. spent some time thinking about your bridal look) that they fit your vision.

Did anyone else out there change their minds about their bridal look a few weeks away from their big day?

My Somethings/Accessories for the Bridal Look

My apologies for being a bad blogger of late. I promise, I have so much to post about, and a lot has been going on in the Wide-Wedding-World of Micah and Patrick. Before I go off about anything else, I have to talk about my Somethings! I finally acquired all of them!!!

I spoke briefly before about one something, that I was really excited about. It was the first of many something blues (I can't help it! I love blue!!!). But here are the rest of my somethings, and almost all of my Bridal accessories!

Oh! Patrick, do NOT read any further!
I'm talking about my WEDDING
ACCESSORIES here!!!

OK. Here they are!!!

You probably can't see it clearly, but those lovelies are
almost all my accessories!

My shoes with peacock shoe-clips, and my garters!

My Something Blue --- Brooch, and my Something New -- Crystal Earrings

There's the Sixpence (for my shoe!)

Here is my favorite new purchase! My Something Old
---It caught my eye in an antique shop. It compliments my wedding ring
set so well, I couldn't pass up. My Something Old Right-hand ring!
You may have noticed that I neglected to a.) tell you about the white shoes next to my pretty Ninas and b.) picture my Something Borrowed. A.) I will post about the white shoes shortly! B.) My Something Borrowed is actually still living with it's owner and my FMIL! It's a GORGEOUS delicate crystal bracelet. I can't WAIT to show you --- but I must, it's being borrowed, so I can't have it now :)

I showed you all my garters and shoes (although I never posted a photo) before. The shoes I completed by making quick shoe clips with a little help from my friend, Michael's Craft Store peacock feathers. Love them! I hinted at my purchase of these earrings when I found them in a Friday Finds post. They called to me --- begging to be bought and worn with my dress! So, rather impulsively, I bought them. The other earrings I mentioned that Patrick gave me for my birthday will be worn, don't you worry! The brooch I am planning on using to attach a ribbon sash to my dress! (First fitting coming up!) My FMIL gave me the sixpence in my stocking this Christmas! I was so touched, and so excited because that's a part of the Somethings that I was concerned I wouldn't be able to get!

Finally, quick story about the Something Old. I always thought I could borrow a piece of jewelry from my parents or FILs however, there was just one thing I couldn't really reconcile (please don't judge, this is extremely Type A of me): I never wear gold and all the jewelry I wanted to borrow were gold. So, last Saturday I took a trip to an Antique shop, not really expecting to find anything but BAM! --- there it was; this stunning art-deco-esque ring. I couldn't take my eyes off of it, and I had to try it. I had two concerns; one that it would over power my wedding ring set, and two that it wouldn't fit on my freakishly tiny fingers. But both fears were put to rest! It actually compliments my rings and sits well on my middle finger! I can't wait to wear it!

There we have it. Now that I have all the Somethings, all the under-roos (sneaky, I know -- I bought them yesterday and I'm not sure about sharing them over the interwebz so those will remain a secret) it seems that my Bridal-look will be completed when I have the dress altered, and then finally on the wedding day including my hair and makeup (And hair flower --- coming soon!!!!!).

What about you? Are you going for it to complete your bridal look with all the Somethings? Did you worry or have a hard time finding one of the items? Do you ramble as much as I do when you're excited?

Best,

Micah

Somethings

Something old,
something new,
something borrowed,
something blue,
and a six-pence in her shoe!

The age-old rhyme. I love it. Such a sweet tradition for the Bridal attire details. I intend on doing my best to gather all my somethings for the big day! I got a little curious today and did a little research on the rhyme and this is what I came up with: The Something Old is supposed to be protection for the couple's future child. (Wikipedia said nothing for Something New, but it is my opinion that something shiny and new to wear on the wedding day is always cause for happiness). Something Borrowed is traditionally from another happy bride, to pass along that happiness and bring good luck. Something Blue (my favorite of course, I will have SEVERAL something blues) is there because blue is a symbol for fidelity. The six-pence is a British coin and acted as both a sign of prosperity and wealth for the couple, and a ward against any evil done by "frustrated suitors" to be worn in the left shoe. The tradition is attributed to Lancashire county in 1883.

Well, what do I have to show for myself? Lot's of stuff!!!

If you'll recall my posts where I talked about accessories, you will see that I am slowly but surely acquiring my somethings!

First; because I have been teasing about this for awhile, let me talk about one of my Something Blues. I found it in my first Friday Finds post and I couldn't stop thinking about it! Oh, get outta here P-man!!!

I mean it babe,
SCOOCH!
I'm about to talk about my
wedding dress here!!!

Wee! So, When I tried on the dress last, I was talking with my mom and future MIL and we were talking about adding a little to the dress! We were thinking that adding a simple ribbon at the waist would really add to the silhouette. And my consultant suggested finding a brooch or button to tie it together. Well, I found one that I love! Also the Etsy seller One World Designs Jewelry was fabulous! She made sure that the package was delivered and sent me a beautiful little card to go with it, with well wishes for the wedding! I love the piece and I am excited that I now have a piece of the wedding that I could potentially pass down to my children in the future! Without further a do, here she is!!!

One of my Something Blues!!!
Yay! I am so excited to bring it to the first fitting (which I still have to schedule AHH!) and to see how to get it on my dress.

I'll continue this post soon! I'm heading to a meeting with my boss from work to begin planning our ceremony! EEE! More on that later too!

What's your Something Blue? Are you planning on acquiring all of them?

All the best,

Micah

Accessorize me!!!!

I mentioned that I recently had a birthday, right? Right. Well, lucky for me, it kind of kick-started my obtaining of accessories for the wedding!

I know what you're thinking; "OMG, she didn't share the dress? WHAT?" Well, I actually don't have a dress yet...in my possession. I have, however, found one that I simply CANNOT stop thinking about. It's gotten to the point where when I picture my wedding day, I picture this dress. I think it's safe to say that it's the one. (More on that later/I can't really share pictures because a certain someone who is NOT allowed to see my dress until a certain day reads this blog). But yeah, I fully intend on purchasing this dress, as soon as possible. Like, no later than October! (::squeal::) Anyway, I am one of those crazies who bought accessories before actually owning the dress. Stupid? Maybe. But am I excited? You better believe it.

Here's how it went down. Firstly, before my birthday I was filling in for a receptionist as one of the temporary assignments I am working on for a personnel group. That entails me sitting at a desk waiting to answer the phones and pick up the mail while reading Weddingbee and Style-Me-Pretty posts from 9-5. Also Etsy-ing. It is so dangerous to do these things because then BB takes over and I found myself obsessing over garters! Well, I found one! And it is being made by a wonderful shop on Etsy called "Rosebud Lips" that makes all different wedding/beauty items and I CAN'T WAIT to get it! (Here's a link to my garter, I just didn't want P to see it because he's most likely to read this post).

For my birthday Patrick, being adorable and all, set up a lovely weekend for me. First, we took a mini vacation to Vermont just me, him and Peanut. Simply to relax and de-stress. And I have to say it was wonderful. Two days of relaxing in the quiet woods; me working on wedding details and him composing. (I narrowed down the list of caterers we saw at the "Taste of the Towers" to five we actually like!)
Lovely little chalet in VT
When we came back that Sunday, he with my friends planned a great backyard BBQ where there were CUPCAKES and other delicious foods, games and good times with friends. Then on Monday (long weekend) we visited my parents. It was such a wonderful birthday, I had such a great time! What great friends and a wonderful fiance I have. As for prezzies (presents), I got some things that I would decide to use as part of my wedding day attire. Along with the amazing weekend he planned for me, Patrick bought me a beautiful necklace and...

BLUE ROSE EARRINGS!
I love them!
I plan on wearing them the day we wed, because they represent something that is very dear to me and they symbolize us. They are beautiful, and I am so thrilled! Also, Claire, Patrick's sister, got me a beautiful purse to wear. It is gorgeous and quite fancy and I think it would be wonderful to put tissues, chapstick, small mirrors, and other essentials in on the day of the wedding.
I am so grateful. It's absolutely stunning and inspired me to go out and find...my wedding shoes. Now, as you know, I had been looking at different kinds of blue shoes. I really love the color, and I don't think my clumsy self could keep ivory shoes in pristine condition through our wedding day. So, I decided on the Jeannettes, I took my debit card out and got ready to buy them online. But! But, but, but they were OUT of the royal blues! I confess, I did get a little upset. And then, I got mad. I started googling blue shoes all over the place but nothing seemed right. I found some I liked, but I never really loved them. I just knew they weren't it. I then kept remembering the brand that my friend Abbie had worn on her day. There was something about the pink shoe tote bag, the graceful brand name that just drew me to their website.

I proceeded through all shoes, all colors until I found one pair that I fell in love with and that I knew were the right ones for me. (Funnily enough, I found out afterward that they are the same exact shoes, except for color that Abbie wore in her wedding!) They are perfect:

1. They have a small heel.
2. They are blue.
3. They fit perfectly
4. They're BLUE!

So, guys...I have them! My wedding shoes came in last week and I couldn't be happier! I love how comfortable/stylish/beautiful they are and I can definitely tell that I could wear them all night! I am so excited! It just means to me that we are getting closer and closer to our wedding day! (I'm going to hold off on pictures just because again a certain someone reads this, and I am trying to keep my wedding day look a secret until the big day!)

If you made it this far, congratulations. You've survived my gushing over accessories. Thank you! If you couldn't tell, I am excited. :) So, I got earrings, shoes, a garter, and a purse to begin creating my own Bridal look! Did anyone else get their wedding accessories before actually purchasing a dress?

Best,

Micah
